Caltrans Website Accessibility Analysis

The California Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans’) website (http://www.dot.ca.gov/) and the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency (BTH – http://bth.ca.gov ) website provides more than 300,000 pages of information and 400,000 static documents.  The “Accessibility of Public Web Content Survey” project was initiated to understand the status of Caltrans’ and BTH’s public website accessibility, and identify steps to address the website accessibility issues.  The project involved analyzing the Caltrans and BTH public website content against the Section 508 guidelines, analyzing the Caltrans business processes related to web publishing, and providing recommendations and training to improve compliance with the Section 508 guidelines.

SymSoft's team analyzed the web content on the Caltrans site, analyzed existing processes for developing and publishing the web content, provided training to the Caltrans staff for creating accessible content and validating for compliance with the accessibility statutes, estimated costs and efforts for remediation of the issues.  We also worked on the resolution of some of the identified accessibility issues .
